Did you know that according to an annual survey by Informa Research and CUNA, Class Act members save an average of $188 each per year simply by banking here instead of a for-profit bank? This news may come as no surprise to credit union members, but what may be surprising is that Class Act members saved more than double the amount of other Kentucky credit unions. We are very proud of that. Members who were identified as “loyal members” saved even more – an average of $1,651 per household! Clearly, it pays to be loyal.
The survey defined “loyal members” as those who had a car loan, Honors Checking, mortgage and a credit card with Class Act, but the majority of the savings resulted from our car loans and checking accounts. Our mission is to convince many of our “casual members” to become “loyal members” but we will need your help.
I’m not suggesting that members that have only a savings account here are less than loyal. Not at all. Many such members have been saving here for decades and are by definition “loyal.” However, by not taking advantage of more services these members are missing out on hundreds of dollars of savings every year.
Members with deeper financial relations with the credit union contribute more to our success. Deeper relationships benefit both the individual member as well as the entire cooperative to which we all belong. Take car loans as an example; according to the survey Class Act’s car loan rates were 2.25% lower than the average Kentucky bank. This one product alone saved our members over one million dollars last year. The interest from those same car loans is what helps pay 4.0% dividends to members with Honors Checking.
Every Class Act member is in fact an owner of the credit union and has a tangible stake in our shared success. Unlike bank customers, credit union members can and should be more than mere consumers of the products and services we offer. My goal is to make sure every Class Act member understands that, in hopes that this greater understanding results in deeper relationships with our members. If you have a car loan elsewhere, consider moving it to Class Act. If you’re checking account isn’t paying you 4.0%, consider opening one at Class Act. The deeper you go, the more you save. Plus, you will be helping all 19,000 of your fellow member-owners of Class Act Federal Credit Union. Let’s win-win together.

Please be aware of recent changes at two shared branch locations. The shared branch at Goose Creek Road closed permanently on September 30th. Members who typically frequent the Goose Creek branch are encouraged to use the Class Act branch on Chamberlain Lane at Westport Road (in front of the WalMart). The Dixie Highway shared branch has been purchased by Beacon Community Credit Union and will remain a shared branch outlet. Skip-a-Pay in December!
Class Act’s “Skip-a-Pay is an easy and affordable way to stretch your holiday budget. Class Act members may elect to keep extra money in their pockets by skipping certain loan payments this December. By paying a $30 fee per loan, members can skip December loan payments for car loans or personal signature loans. It doesn’t matter if you make your payments weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly – you can skip them all and pay just one fee per loan. Open-ended lines of credit, and real estate loans are not eligible for Skip-a-Pay.

Holiday Loans

Avoid Fraud this Holiday Season
Sadly, the holiday season brings with it a spike in fraud activity. Class Act urges members to be extra vigilant while shopping, whether at retail stores or online. Class Act employs a number of state of the art fraud-fighting tools, and we are available 24/7 via phone to assist with your card needs. Class
Act credit and debit cards carry the E.M.V. chip to reduce fraud, and we use real-time fraud monitoring services to protect your accounts. We are committed to keeping your card information safe while you shop, wherever you shop. You can help too by checking your account frequently, and notifying us immediately when you discover fraud or if your cards have been lost or stolen. Notify us 48 hours in advance if you will be traveling during the holidays or whenever you are out of town. Also, be sure we have your current cell phone number on file. Our fraud monitoring service will text you if it detects a suspicious transaction. If the charge is valid, simply reply to the text. Otherwise your transaction may be declined. Call us at 502.964.7575 and select the prompt for fraud if you discover unauthorized transactions or if your card has been lost or stolen. Thank you.
